05/2024: Beamtime at the European synchrotron ESRF

Fresh from the field  -  off to the synchrotron! Laura Wegner, myself, and PhD student Xiyang Xu from the University of Tübingen teamed up to analyze our samples from the Pezinok mine in Slovakia at the European synchrotron. We will use the results to draw conclusions about Sb speciation and how ferrous Fe oxidation may play into cleaning up toxic metalloids in polluted areas. P.S. The photo shows our samples chillingd in the cryostat, safely housed within the glovebox.

04/2024: Iron oxide sampling in Slovakia

PhD student Laura Wegner and I recently conducted a field sampling in Pezinok, Slovakia,  delving into the fascinating realm of Fe(II) oxidation and its impact on Sb and As transport. Our journey was made all the more enjoyable by the invaluable guidance of our colleagues from Comenius University (Bratislava), as well as our knowledgeable guide Jirko.
